Old Fashioned Novel And Devotional Review + Prize Pack #Giveaway 7/10 US/CAN #OLDFASHIONEDMOVIE #FLYBY

#OLDFASHIONEDMOVIE.jpg
A few weeks back, I wrote a review for the Old Fashioned movie and said that I will be doing a giveaway for a prize pack which includes the Old Fashioned DVD, Old Fashioned Novel and the Old Fashioned Devotional. Well, I'm excited to share with you my review of the Old Fashioned Novel and Old Fashioned Devotional and read on below to enter the giveaway! :) You can also read my review of the Old Fashioned movie HERE.
#OLDFASHIONEDMOVIE.jpg
About the devotional:
Softcover; 222 pages

Contrary to popular opinion, being "old fashioned" doesn't mean you're dull or unromantic.  In fact, a true old fashioned relationship can be more exciting and romantic than anything you've ever experienced!  So what does it mean to do things the old fashioned way?  Sure, it means opening doors, holding out chairs, and taking things slow.  But a true old fashioned romance goes much, much deeper than that.  Inspired by the motion picture Old Fashioned, this book will show you how to reclaim the lost art of romance by introducing you to romantic love as God intended it.  Regardless of your past mistakes, where you've been, what you've done, or where you are now, you can find and create a love that will last a lifetime!  As you work your way through this forty-day journey of inspiring readings and questions for reflection, you'll discover all the unique and amazing benefits of doing things the old fashioned way.  And before you know it, you'll be well on your way to creating a love story for the ages.
#OLDFASHIONEDMOVIE.jpg
About the novelization:
Softcover; 303 pages

Turning his back on his reckless lifestyle, former frat boy Clay Walsh has settled down to turn an antique shop in a small Midwestern college town....and to purse lofty and outdated theories on love and romance.  But when Amber Hewson, a free-spirited woman with a gypsy soul, rents the apartment above his shop, Clay can't help being attracted to her spontaneous and passionate embrace of life.  Amber also finds herself surprisingly drawn to Clay, but his ideas about relationships are unusual to say the least, and they bring to light her own deep wounds and fears about love.  They say opposites attract, but can Clay and Amber move beyond their differences and their pasts to attempt an "old fashioned" courtship?
MY REVIEW:

The Old Fashioned Novel is a great read for all singles as well as married people because it has a nice, clean, romantic story which for me is really nice. This novel was set in modern times but depicts an old fashioned way of dating. The characters are really likeable and I like how innocent this novel is and yet, it teaches lots of things which includes forgiveness both for others and for ones self, redemption and true love.

Clay Walsh has done something in the past that made him change his whole views about dating and relationships. When Amber Hewson arrived in their town and rented the room above his shop, he was attracted to her instantly but Amber's views are a bit different. She also has been hurt in the past but that didn't stop her from expressing her feelings more vocally as compared to Clay. I love how they resolved their differences in such a mature way and even though this is a clean and innocent love story, it still brought butterflies to my stomach.

The Old Fashioned Devotional is a great read and although I'm already married, I had fun reading it with hubby. It is a 40-day reflection/journal which is a nice read specially to people who are single. The journal is a bit old fashioned, and many would not agree with it but I think it's a nice read to widen one's knowledge and views on certain things. At the end of each daily journal, there is a reflection part where I can answer questions about dating and relationships and truly reflect on what I feel inside. I also like the short prayer at the end of each daily journal.

MY REVIEW:

I started reading young and by the time I was in highschool, I can finish reading 2 novels in 1 day. I loved reading books when I was younger and I'd like it if my daughters would love reading books as much as I did. When I received the Jack Staples and the City of Shadows, I know that my daughters are too young to read it, they're 4 and 6, but I read it to them. I read them 1 to 2 chapters every night until we finished reading the book.

The book Jack Staples and the City of Shadows has a very nice story and is age appropriate. I like that my daughters were so intent on listening to me when I read them this book. This took us to an adventure every night and my daughters loved the action and characters in the book. I haven't read the first book in this Trilogy yet but it's easy to follow the story just by reading this second book.

I love how this book is filled with action and adventure and taught my daughters about friendship, faith and being brave. My daughters also were able to understand what's good and bad from this book. This book is for children ages 8 to 12 but can be read to younger children as well.

You can purchase the book Jack Staples and the City of Shadows on David C Cook's Website.

The Montana Gallagher Trilogy Ebook By MK McClintock Review

TheMontanaGallaghersTrilogy.jpg
Escape to the old west with three classic novels of family, adventure, and love from the Montana Gallagher collection.
One man could not destroy them. Another could not tear them apart. They fought for their family, their love, and their legacy . . . and they survived.

GALLAGHER'S PRIDE
She was a on a quest of discovery. He was on a quest for revenge. Together they would discover a second chance. Brenna Cameron travels from Scotland after losing someone she loves in search of family she didn't know existed. Alone now in the world, Brenna makes an arduous journey, following the trail of discovery to Briarwood, Montana. Here she meets Ethan Gallagher, and the rest of the Gallagher clan. Only with their help is she able to discover lost family, heal old wounds and embark on a treacherous confrontation with a man who destroyed her family.

GALLAGHER'S HOPE
She sought a new beginning. He sought what he didn't know was missing. Together they would discover hope in unlikely places. Isabelle Rousseau must escape New Orleans and the memory of her family's tragic loss. With her younger brother in tow, she accepts a position as the new schoolteacher in Briarwood, Montana. Desperate to keep what's left of her family together, Isabelle joins her life with a stranger only to discover that trust and hope go hand in hand.

GALLAGHER'S CHOICE
He finally had a family to call his own. She now knew what it meant to risk it all. Together they had a chance to find peace at last. Eliza Gallagher is tough, resilient, and rides a horse like she was born in the saddle. All necessary qualities for someone who runs a cattle ranch. She had more to avenge than any of them and she was counting on those skills to finally find the justice they all sought -- until she realized it could cost her everything and everyone she loved. Ramsey Hunter finally knew what it was to have a family and what it took to keep that family together. He knew coming back wouldn't be easy, but he never imagined what he would have to risk to keep it. Eliza got him home; now Ramsey has to do whatever it takes to save her life and help bring peace to Hawk's Peak.

TheMontanaGallaghersTrilogy.jpg
FROM THE AUTHOR:

Dearest Reader,

The Montana Gallaghers are dear to me, and if I were to choose a place in time to live, it would be with them in the nineteenth-century. I first moved to a small mountain town in Montana over fifteen years ago. Before that, I lived on a small twenty-acre ranch in Colorado. I grew up with horses, going so far as to walk around on all fours with them in the pasture, and then riding bareback while playing cowboys and Indians with my siblings. The Gallaghers' stories stem from a lifetime of love for life in the mountains and on the open plains.

Of course, one can't actually know what it would have been like to live during the 1800's, but we can rely on research and the experts to guide us by providing valuable information, answering questions, and checking our facts. Sometimes the history falls short of expectations. Facts we know to be right today may have been different back then; from the way people spoke to what they called everyday items. For every hour spent writing, an author is likely spending at least two on research. I write historical fiction because it transports me to another time and place, allowing me to imagine and live a way of life that no longer exists.

A reader's time is valuable, and with so many books from which to choose, I want to thank each of you for giving my stories a chance because I love to share them with you.

MY REVIEW:

Ever since I was in high school, I've loved reading romance novels. I definitely inherited my mom's love for reading novels. I am a fast reader and can finish one entire 300+ page novels in one sitting when I was younger. Now that I have my own family, reading an entire novel takes longer because I only squeeze it during my free times. That is, if I start reading it at night and found the book interesting. That's what happened with the Montana Gallagher Trilogy. As soon as I read the first chapter, I couldn't seem to put the book down.

I love trilogies and novels which has a separate story for each family member. I've read a lot of these genre of novels and I love that the story continues with each family member. The Montana Gallagher Trilogy is about the 3 Gallagher siblings who found love in unusual and at the same time romantic circumstances. My favorite among the three would have to be Gallagher's Pride, which is the story of Ethan Gallagher and Brenna Cameron. The other 2 are well written as well and each book brought me to laughter, tears and sometimes fear of what will happen to the protagonists. Of course, each book is filled with romance which left me with that feel-good, tingling feeling. I am a romantic at heart so I appreciate the first-attraction/love-at-first-sight feel of these books.

The Montana Gallagher Trilogy is a must read for those who love Historical Romance/Historical Western Romance with a bit of suspense because I definitely loved it. Each book was very well written that I was transported back in time. The characters are very easy to love and I like how unique the story is in each book in the trilogy.

MY REVIEW:

My daughters sometimes act up when they don't like something. They would pout and stomp their feet and I would immediately talk to them and most times, a time out. So when I received the Whatever Wanda! Book, I looked forward to showing it to them.

My daughters, who are 4 and 6, were so excited as soon as they saw the Whatever Wanda! Book.I let my 6 year old daughter read it to me and her sister and she read it with no problems. The story was simple to understand and I love the moral at the end of the story.
WhateverWanda!.jpg
My 4 year old daughter loved the illustrations in the Whatever Wanda! Book because they're so colorful and nice. I like how the book taught my daughters how to be stay positive, happy and thankful in the things that they do.

After my 6 year old daughter finished reading the book to me and her sister, I asked them what they learned about the book. My 6 year old daughter told me that she shouldn't act up and should find something fun in everything that she does. My 4 year old daughter told me not to say "Whatever" all the time.

The Berenstain Bears' Please & Thank You Book Review + Giveaway 3/12 US/CAN

BerenstainBearsPlease&ThankYou.jpg
About the book:
20 pages / Ages 2+
BerenstainBearsPlease&ThankYou.jpg
I believe good manners should be taught to children because it will be a huge plus in their personality when they grow up. With the Berenstain Bears' Please & Thank You book, it teaches toddlers and kids 3 words which are very important to say every time ask for something and what to say after they get what they asked for.
BerenstainBearsPlease&ThankYou.jpg
My 2 daughters, who are 3 and 6, sometimes forget to say these 3 words and for me, there is still time to instill in them good manners. When I read the book to them, my 3 year old daughter looked at the pictures while my 6 year old daughter read with me.

The Berenstain Bears' Please & Thank You book have wonderful and colorful illustrations. It is a board book so my 3 year old daughter can flip the pages on her own.

I read the book to them and my 3 year old daughter was fast to fill in the blanks when I asked her what she should say in every scenario in the book which needs the words "Please, Thank You and You're Welcome". This is a nice book to read for toddlers because it's simple to understand and direct to the point.

I love how this book reminded my daughters how to have good manners and the proper words to say when they ask for something, when they get what they asked for and what to say if somebody says Thank You to them.

Wicka: The Chronicles Of Elizabeth Blake By Christy Deveaux Review

WickaEbook.jpg
ABOUT THE BOOK:

While mourning the loss of a mother figure, Elizabeth Blake, a smart but socially introverted seventeen-year-old girl from Ann Arbor, Michigan, enrolls in an international school in the south of France to finish her final year of high school. Here she meets her true love, finds out that she is a witch from an ancient family, and discovers that her life is in danger.

Meanwhile, the Elders—the most powerful coven of witches in the world—have been tracking Elizabeth since her birth. According to an ancient legend, a battle led by “One barely born existing to lead” will cause the downfall of the Elders. Fearing that Elizabeth is the heir to this legend, the Elders try to destroy her before she can fulfill the prophecy.

With the help of her new friends, Elizabeth must travel to Greece to try and prove to the Elders that she is not a threat and to ask for their permission to exist in peace.

With the prospect of having to leave each other once the school year ends and return to their homes on opposite sides of the world, Elizabeth and her new love have to find a way to stay together. However, a rival love interest discovers their plan and causes the Elders to act against Elizabeth. As time runs out, Elizabeth must learn to use the powers she possesses to protect herself and the people she loves most.

MY REVIEW:

I've always loved paranormal and fantasy romance books and I've read quite a number of books in this genre. So, when I heard about the book, Wicka: The Chronicles of Elizabeth Blake, I was quite excited to read the novel.

The book, Wicka: The Chronicles of Elizabeth Blake is a nice read for young adults or teens who love paranormal and fantasy romance books. I loved getting to know each character and the story is very interesting. It is fast paced and, as a fast reader, I finished the book in just a few hours.

The first few paragraphs of the book caught my attention and I wasn't able to put the book down. The story is captivating and I just had to see what will happen next on each chapter. I like how light and innocent this book is and how age-appropriate it is for young adults. I also like how this book has a combination of romance, humor, action and a bit of drama.

I loved how this novel brought me to a place where witches exist. Each character is interesting and I loved how Christy brought life to each character. The main protagonist, Elizabeth, is a smart and interesting girl and I like how she was portrayed. I love how she and William both fell in love at first sight and how their relationship developed throughout the story.
I was kind of sad when I reached the last page of the book because it really left me hanging. This has a wonderful story and I can't wait for the next book!

MY REVIEW:

Reading the book, Growing Up Social by Gary Chapman and Arlene Pellicane made me re-think about how my daughters are growing up. There are a lot of key points in the book which made me think how technology is affecting my daughters.
For example, my 6 year old daughter loves watching game plays and playing games in the computer. I noticed how she's now easily angered. I believe that the game plays she's watching and the games she's playing is affecting how she acts and how she controls her anger. The Growing Up Social Book made me confirm to myself what I'm already aware of and made me more strict in what my 6 year old daughter watches.

Another point in the book was teaching kids appreciation. My daughters like to say I want this and I want that when we're out. My hubby, is a bit stricter than me, and when my daughters get two things they wanted to buy, he'll let them decide which one they like more and he lets them return the other thing/s they got. I, on the other hand, let my daughters get what they want as long as the price is reasonable or if the items are on sale (if hubby isn't there because if he is, he wouldn't allow that). I knew deep inside that they shouldn't be getting everything they want but there's this conflict that I want them to be happy too. After reading the book, I immediately thought how hubby handles buying toys for my daughters. I think what he's doing is more suitable so that my daughters would learn appreciation.

There are a lot more key points in the book which are very helpful in raising my daughters in this increasing technology age. I loved reading the book and each of the chapter of the book made me re-think and reflect on how I can raise my daughters detached from their gadgets and more into what's important.. Enjoying family time, their personalities and how they interact with other people as they grow up.

Watch the trailer of the book above.

MY REVIEW:

When we were little, we watched all the Disney Princess movies and I grew up thinking of finding my prince charming and having happily ever afters. As I grew up, my parents always argue and I realized that it wasn't always the case. My parents' separation was the ultimate proof for me that not all marriages are meant to last forever. My mom fought to keep the marriage and to save it but, as with her case, more than 2 decades of patience isn't enough to wait for my dad to change. He left and started a family of his own, leaving us with our mom. We are very thankful for our mom because without her, we wouldn't be who we are now.

I now have my own family, a husband and 2 daughters, and in my experience, marriage is learning to give and receive. It wouldn't work with 1 party only giving and 1 party only receiving. Gary Thomas' A Lifelong Love has a lot of short stories about different people's marriages. I can relate to some of the stories and I love the reflection at the end of each chapter.

A Lifelong Love made me re-think and reflect on how me and hubby can make our marriage work and last. This is a great book for those planning to get married and to those who are married. It's not just staying together but it's about being there for your wife/husband, setting your priorities straight and a lot more.
